Super Century Postponed

Dear “Give Me Wings” Registrant:

The Shasta Wheelmen pride themselves on putting on a quality riding event each year which challenges cyclists, showcases our uniquely beautiful area, and provides a fun and enjoyable experience for all. In order for the event to work, not just for our club but for all riders, there should be a minimum amount of participants. This year, perhaps due to the fact that there are multiple Century and cycling events on the same date as our “Give Me Wings Super Century” event, and on the surrounding weekends, registration is down considerably from past years. Therefore, with much regret the ride committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the event. We will provide refunds to all who request them, along with any fees paid to Active.com, so please contact Wayne Wilson in that regard.
We are planning on doing the Super Century route on May 3, 2014, informally and without support, beginning  at 7:30 AM at the Palo Cedro Park and Ride near the Chevron Station.  Additional parking is across the street where the Holiday Market is.  There are many shorter options, such as turning back at the Ash Creek/Wildcat intersection, or turning back on Black Butte Road, or heading back from Shingletown, or heading back on the Whitmore Road, or heading back on the Oak Run Road. Therefore, if you are still inclined to challenge yourself on beautiful roads, come and join us. There are markets along the route to provide refreshments and Wheelmen club members will act as ride advisors.
This does not mean we will be ending the “Give Me Wings” rides in the future. We will be evaluating the timing of our ride so that it does not fall in the middle of numerous other rides, as well as speaking with local service and charitable organizations to see about partnering. The Shasta Wheelmen has been an active and vibrant means of promoting cycling safety, enjoyment and camaraderie within our community since 1970, and we will continue to do so. Our annual organized ride is very much a part of our mission as a club, and we intend to look very carefully at how best to make the future events more enjoyable and feasible for all who choose to join us.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, and very much look forward to riding with you in the near future.

“Give Me Wings” Ride Committee.

Our Club
The Shasta Wheelmen Bicycling Club is a cycling group whose membership is family-oriented and welcomes riders of all ages. Founded in 1970, it is affiliated with the League of American Bicyclists, the California Association of Bicycling Organizations, and Adventure Cycling.

We are located in beautiful Redding California.

Club rides are scheduled on each Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and on some holidays. Guests are invited to attend these rides, with the provision that helmets are worn on all rides and liability waivers are signed. With Redding as the club base, a wide variety of terrain is available for riding, varying from flat to rolling hills to mountains.

We interact with the public and with local government agencies to promote safe, effective cycling, improved road conditions to facilitate bicycle commuting as well as recreational riding, and cyclists’ rights to the use of the roads.

Meetings are held at 7:00 pm on the first Monday of each month at Shasta Regional Medical Center, 1100 Butte Street Redding 96001, Liberty Room 2, go through main lobby and make a right turn, then left turn, it is the first meeting room with glass windows on the right.  Guests are welcome!
